The Big eyes horse mackerel is an active predator that feeds on a wide variety of creatures. Single-species diets include crabs, shrimps, squids, crustaceans, fish and invertebrate juveniles, and fish about 1 meter long. Some smaller species filter zooplankton through gill rakers. Big eyes horse mackerel feed on a variety of midwater and surface fishes, with mackerel being their favorite food. The Big eyes horse mackerel's ability to maintain a higher body temperature allows them to quickly hunt for prey at greater depths and in colder waters at higher latitudes. Migrating Big eyes horse mackerel has the fastest digestibility and highest metabolic rate.

The natural distribution of the Big eyes horse mackerel family is wide but sparse, and they are found throughout the oceans, especially in tropical and temperate waters, usually between 45° north and south of the equator. Mainly distributed in low and mid-latitude sea areas, concentrated in the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean and Indian Ocean.
Big eyes horse mackerel family Composite juveniles and juveniles grow and feed with mature individuals under the same current system as adults. All species of Big eyes horse mackerel, except the bluefin Big eyes horse mackerel, lay eggs repeatedly. Some females lay an average of 500,000 eggs, which float near the surface and hatch within 2-5 days, depending on the temperature. The bluefin Big eyes horse mackerel spawns in the tropical waters of the Gulf of Mexico and spends the rest of its time foraging in temperate regions.
